WSAB Self-Neglect Policy Final V3 June 2024
The Policy was reviewed and updated following a survey and further recommendations from Safeguarding Adults Reviews published since it was first signed off by the Board.
In summary the primary changes which have been made are:
- The heading now also includes Rough Sleeping.
- There are now separate sections on Hording (2.6) and Rough Sleeping (2.7)
- Introduction of information on Care Act section 11 assessment.
- Updates on MCA
- Additional information has been added in relation to legislative frameworks to be considered when assessing mental capacity.
- These can be found in sections 3.5, 3.6,.3.7, 3.8, 7.3, 9.3
- Introduction of information on Power of Attorney (section 3.7)
- Introduction of section on professional curiosity (Section 6.4)
- Section 10 amended to ‘understanding the risk’ to reflect changes in section 42 pathway.
- Information on the CARM risk assessment tool has also been added in this section.
- This has been developed to encourage a shared language around risk.
- Amendments to information on the self-neglect pathway to reflect new Adult Social Care Pathways (Adult Front Door and safeguarding)

- The pathway diagram has been amended to reflect this (figure 6)
- Other sections of the document have been amended to reflect these changes include section 3.3, 3.4
